Chimney repair gallery

Original illustrative visuals of chimney repointing, rebuilding, pots and roof-level weathering details.

Chimney repair details

This gallery illustrates the roof-level details discussed during chimney assessment: mortar joints, damaged bricks, safe scaffold access, chimney pots, flaunching and leadwork. The images explain service types and are not presented as individual customer case studies.

Chimney repointing

Repointing removes failed mortar to a sound depth and renews the exposed joints using a specification suited to the masonry. Preparation, joint depth, weather protection and curing all influence durability. See our full chimney repointing service.

Partial and full rebuilding

Loose upper courses may permit a partial rebuild while stable lower masonry remains. Wider cracking, leaning or extensive brick failure can require a larger scope. The original dimensions, bonding and pot positions should be recorded before dismantling. Read about chimney rebuilding.

Pots, flaunching and leadwork

Flaunching supports pots and directs water from the top of the stack. Lead flashing protects the junction between masonry and roof covering. Both should be assessed alongside the bricks and mortar when investigating damp. Explore pot and flaunching work or lead flashing repairs.

Project documentation

For completed work, useful records show the same elevation before preparation and after completion. Roof-level images can confirm which faces were treated and provide a baseline for future maintenance. Exact addresses, faces, number plates and other identifying details should not be published without an appropriate basis and permission.
