How work is scoped

Service standards

The practical standards customers should expect when requesting chimney and brickwork services.

Evidence before recommendation

A damp mark or distant photograph is not treated as proof of one particular defect. Recommendations should consider the visible masonry, mortar, flaunching, pots, leadwork, adjacent roof covering and relevant internal symptoms. Structural, flue or planning questions are referred for appropriate specialist advice where required.

Written quotations

A quotation should describe the repair area, proposed work, significant assumptions, access, materials, exclusions, price and payment arrangements. It should distinguish local repair, complete-face repointing, partial rebuilding and full rebuilding so the scope can be compared properly.

Safe access

Roof work is planned around height, pitch, duration, tools and materials. Scaffolding or another suitable working platform is included where the risk assessment requires it. Customers are not asked to climb onto roofs to obtain photographs.

Materials and workmanship

Replacement bricks and mortar should be suitable for the existing construction and exposure. Leadwork, pots, terminals and flaunching should be selected and installed for their intended purpose. Services are performed with reasonable care and skill.

Changes to scope

Additional defects found after access or opening up are photographed and explained. A material variation, price change or time extension is agreed before extra work proceeds, except temporary action reasonably necessary to control an immediate safety risk.

Property protection

The planned method should consider roof coverings, windows, paths, gardens, neighbouring property and waste. Known fragile or pre-existing conditions are recorded where practical. The included making-good and waste removal are stated in the quotation.

Completion records

Where practical, before-and-after photographs document roof-level work. Customers receive relevant invoices, product information and written warranty terms where a specific warranty is included. No accreditation, insurance cover or guarantee is represented unless it is current and can be evidenced.

Customer communication

Material delays, unsafe weather and access problems are communicated. Questions and complaints are handled under the published complaints procedure. Customer information is handled under the privacy policy.

Authoritative safety information

The Health and Safety Executive roof-work guidance explains why even short-duration roof tasks require proper planning and precautions.
